That Moment When Nothing Fits Anymore

There comes a moment in pregnancy when you realize – NOTHING FITS! Sure, in the beginning you have to toss a few items of clothing aside and stick with the less form-fitting, flowy options but you still have OPTIONS! Inevitably, those options will run out and that can be a jarring moment.

Mine came about 10 minutes before we were leaving for a wedding. I had ordered a dress that was supposed to arrive (and fit!) earlier in the week but it never came. In the days leading up to the event I scoured my closet and came across a totally fierce outfit I knew would work. I even went the extra step of trying it on to be sure – we were good to go!

The day of the wedding came and I went upstairs to go put on the lemonade I had made with the lemons of messed up shipping dates and I was feeling pretty good about everything until my husband saw my outfit…

“Um, I don’t think you can wear that. I’m pretty sure there will be children there.”

What?! I went to look in the mirror. Ugh. He was right. This piece of clothing that once held my 34B perfectly was now spilling over with my 34DD pregnancy boobs! I was so focused on things fitting in my stomach, I didn’t think to check the rack! Oy. It was a little (okay, a lot) pornographic.

Now what?!!! We rummaged through my closet as I tried on outfit after outfit that didn’t fit and he could see me starting to break.

“No, No. Don’t cry. It’s okay we’re going to find something I promise!”

Too late.

Sobs. Even a shriek. Oh, hormones.

“I’m soooo ugly!!”

It was like something out of a sitcom. If I were a fly on the wall I’d be like “Girl, get your shit together!”

I ended up wearing yoga pants and a sparkly tunic. Yep, yoga pants. Thankfully no one could tell but me (or they were too nice to say anything) but it became clear we were going to need to up the pregnancy wardrobe.

I had a rule that I didn’t want to buy anything that couldn’t be worn after pregnancy as well. I think this is probably a little bit easier to do in the summer but anyway, here are a few of my favorite brands/finds that kept me looking fabulous and saved me from another clothing-induced meltdown!

Hatch (everything here is cut to look great before, during and after pregnancy)

Maya & Maya (so cheap, so cute and comes in every color imaginable. I got so many compliments on this one)

Stevie Sister (their flowey dresses won’t cling to you)

Camilla (expensive but really are beautiful)
